Description
Our PT-141 15mg vial holds 15mg of lyophilized PT-141, a melanocortin receptor agonist, tested by HPLC-MS. It’s for in-vitro and lab research only.
What is PT-141 (bremelanotide)?
PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a cyclic seven-amino-acid peptide derived from melanotan II. It activates melanocortin receptors, mainly MC4R, in the brain.
An injectable form is FDA-approved as Vyleesi for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women.
PT-141 mechanism of action
PT-141 activates MC4R and MC3R in the hypothalamus, receptors involved in sexual motivation and arousal pathways. It acts on the brain, not on blood flow, which sets it apart from PDE5 inhibitors.
Chemically it’s Melanotan 2 with a free acid where Melanotan 2 has a C-terminal amide.

PT-141 compared with similar compounds
Here’s how PT-141 15mg fits among related compounds. PT-141 is a melanocortin agonist derived from Melanotan II, acting on MC4 receptors in the brain. By comparison:
- Melanotan II is a cyclic alpha-MSH analog that drives melanin production
- Melanotan I is a linear alpha-MSH analog, more selective for the pigment receptor MC1R
All three act on melanocortin receptors. The difference is selectivity: Melanotan I leans toward the pigment receptor, Melanotan II hits all of them and PT-141 is tuned toward MC4R in the brain. See them all on our skin and tanning peptides page.
How PT-141 15mg is tested
We test PT-141 15mg by HPLC-MS, which pairs liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. The first part measures purity and the second confirms the molecule is the right one. PT-141 15mg tests at over 99% purity.
Each vial is vacuum-sealed straight after lyophilization, so the powder reaches you dry and protected from air.
Keep a record of the batch number on each label. Matching results to batches is the simplest way to rule out the material when an experiment doesn’t behave.
PT-141 15mg reconstitution and concentration
Here’s the math for 15mg of powder:
- 1mL of bacteriostatic water gives 15mg/mL
- 2mL of bacteriostatic water gives 7.5mg/mL
- 3mL of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/mL
Go with whichever number is easiest to work with in your protocol, and label the vial with the concentration and the date you mixed it.
Bacteriostatic water is the usual choice. Add it slowly so it runs down the side of the vial, then swirl or roll until everything dissolves. Shaking can shear peptide chains. Skip it.
PT-141 15mg storage and shelf life
Freeze-dried PT-141 15mg handles room temperature fine during shipping, but for anything longer keep it in a freezer at -20°C, away from light. Once mixed, keep it in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and use it within 28 days.
Let a frozen vial warm up to room temperature before you open it. Cold glass pulls moisture out of the air, and that moisture is what degrades dry peptide.
Other PT-141 strengths
- PT-141 10mg (Bremelanotide): $40.00, about $4.00 per mg
- PT-141 15mg (Bremelanotide) (this page): $50.00, about $3.33 per mg
PT-141 15mg is one of the larger sizes, and bigger vials usually cost less per milligram. It suits longer studies where you’d otherwise reorder.
How many PT-141 15mg vials do you need?
Work out the total amount before you order. Add up what each arm of the study uses across every time point, then divide by 15mg. Round up by one vial so a spoiled sample or a repeat run doesn’t stall the project.
Mix one vial at a time and keep the rest sealed in the freezer. Dry powder keeps far longer than solution, so there’s no reason to reconstitute everything at the start.
